Me: Coconut cream.
Colleague: What the - what are you doing with it?!!
Me: Er. Well. Putting it in my coffee.
Colleague: That's disgusting! Don't you know it is really fatty? (said whilst emptying approx 4kgs of sugar into her milky tea).
Me: Yes. Fat is good for you.
Colleague: (Heaving large melodramatic sigh). Obviously you are one of those people who can eat whatever they like and not put on weight. I just try everything and I can never blah blah blah jibber jabber yammer yammer zippededoodahhhh supercalifragilisticexpialadocious.
Me: OK. Have a nice day.

Re: Lou's Food Log

Post  Louise Foley on Tue Nov 17, 2009 6:12 pm

Have been away on a girls weekend. I find eating well while I am on holiday really difficult. To be honest, I was really tempted not to log my food because we don’t have to log all of our days in this challenge. However, I came into this wanting to make a dedicated effort with my nutrition and so that means logging it all…

I think I did a lot better on the nutrition front than usual. I really tried to make the best possible choices and not beat myself up too much. My mantra: Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good…… Sunday was probably my worst day, but mostly managed to curb my sweet tooth with fruit the rest of the time.

Friday 13 November 2009

S = coffee with coconut cream. Handful raw mixed nuts.
B = on airplane. Bacon and egg pie. Picked around the pastry. Probably had the equivalent of about 0.5 eggs and 2 cubes of ham in it. Ridiculous. Mandarin and pineapple. Handful raw mixed nuts, handful biltong. Coffee with milk.
S = primal bar
Crossfit
L = scrambled eggs, bacon, mushroom. Long black with milk.
S = roasted cashews
D = 2 lamb sausages, salad of lettuce, tomato, capsicum, cucumber, olives. Balsamic dressing. 2 glasses red wine. Dark chocolate.

Saturday 14 November 2009

S = tea with milk.
B = sausages, scrambled eggs, tomato. Long black with milk.
S = blueberries with greek yoghurt.
L = chicken salad with rocket, pumpkin, feta, pinenuts. Eggplant chips with aioli.
S = blueberries with greek yoghurt.
D = blueberries with greek yoghurt. 2 lamb sausages
S = dark chocolate

Sunday 15 November 2009

S = tea with milk.
B = omelette with ham, cheese, tomato. Long black with milk.
S = blueberries with almonds and greek yoghurt. 2 pieces watermelon.
S = piece of carrot cake. The high I got off this was almost like a drug. I could hear my heart pounding in my ears! Long black with milk.
S = raw carrot and brocolli with salsa and feta dip. Olives, cheese, gherkins.
D = Quiche, salad of lettuce, tomato, capsicum, cucumber. Balsamic dressing.
S = magnum ice cream.

Monday 16 November 2009

S = blueberries with almonds and greek yoghurt.
B = omelette with ham, cheese, tomato. Long black with milk.
L = salad of lamb, lettuce, capsicum, eggplant, feta, balsamic dressing. Chicken pieces.
S = primal bar. Long black with milk.
D = on airplane. 2 pieces chicken. Salad (had some sort of grain in it. Tabuleh I think. Doh). Then I caved and ate my little mini banana cake kindly provided to me. IN FLIGHT TRAY FAIL.

Tuesday 17 November 2009

Now I am away at a work retreat for a couple of days. I told a minor white lie to the caterers – told them I was gluten intolerant hoping that would mean they would provide me with some meat and veges.

B = chicken and chorizo jambalyah with tomato and grated cauliflower. Arrived home at 2am this morning from airport and had to pull a meal out of the freezer for breakfast as didn’t have any eggs. Or any fresh food whatsoever. Coffee with coconut cream.
Crossfit
S = big handful of raw mixed nuts and biltong. Coffee with milk.
L = pasta-free lasagna with veges. At least the chef got this part right! Parsnip soup (I picked out all the parsnip and just ate the watery part). Broccoli and avocado salad. Then, I got provided with a little piece of gluten-free chocolate slice. And I ate it. I’m not proud of it but there you go. I was powerless to its pseudo-healthy gluten-free pull.
S = coffee with milk, green tea. Managed to ignore huge plate of oaty chocolate chip cookies. Does that make up for my earlier transgression?
45 minute run
D = fish, broccoli with pine nuts, carrots, salad with balsamic dressing. "Gluten-free" apple crumble. Bloody bloody bloody. I take full responsibility for the fact that just because this apple crumble was gluten free it was in no way good for me. Only mitigating factor was getting in a good hard run prior to eating it. So I'm officially OVER being away from my own food and my own cooking.

B = 2 eggs scrambled with 1/4 avocado, sprinkled with cajun spice. Handful spinach leaves, streaky bacon. Coffee with coconut cream.
L = sausage casserole with onion, tomato, courgette, capsicum, mushroom, olives.
S = salad of 1 cup spinach, 1/4 avocado, 1/4 cup capsicum, 20g cheddar. Dressing of 1 tsp olive oil and 1 tsp balsamic. Small tin tuna.
S = green tea and 7 fish oil caps
Crossfit
D = paleo pad thai. Handful biltong. Two teaspoons almond butter.
S = handful raw mixed nuts, herbal tea.

Am going to Gold Coast tomorrow for a girls weekend. Going on planes and being away on holiday is pretty much the final frontier for me when it comes to eating well. Am planning a few cheats, but am going to stick to the plan and not let other cheats sneak in there. Haven't had a cheat meal for nearly 3 weeks now so I feel OK about it. Knowing that I have to log everything is definitely going to help. Would just be far, far too embarrassing to have to write: "8am. Entire chocolate gateau."

B = 3 eggs scrambled with 1/2 cup of cherry tomatoes and 1/4 avocado, sprinkled with cajun spice. Coffee with coconut cream.
L = sausage casserole with onion, tomato, courgette, capsicum, mushroom, olives. Lots of spices and fresh herbs in there. Mmmmmm.
S = salad of 1 cup spinach, 1/2 cup cherry tomatoes, 1/4 cup capsicum, 40g feta, 35g biltong. Dressing of 1 tsp olive oil and 1 tsp balsamic.
S = green tea and 7 fish oil caps
Crossfit + gymnastics
D = paleo pad thai. Handful biltong. Two teaspoons almond butter.

Was sorely tempted by chocolate mud cake in lunchroom at work today. Very sorely tempted. Managed to hold out for about an hour, and then snuck back just to, you know, check on the cake. Look at it perhaps. Check on its status. Luckily the IT team had been in there and demolished the entire thing, so there wasn't even a crumb left. So I didn't eat it. Hurrah!!

Monday 9 November 2009

B = 2 fried eggs, streaky bacon, cherry tomatoes, avocado. Coffee with coconut cream. The memory of yesterdays UBER-LUNCH was still fresh. I decided what better way to honour the memory of UBER-LUNCH then to create an exact replica UBER-BREAKFAST?
L = paleo pad thai. Pork mince, cabbage, carrot, coconut cream, red curry paste, almond butter, fish sauce, lime juice, sesame oil, raw cashews. 1 heaped teaspoon almond butter.
S = green tea and 5 fish oil caps.
S = paleo pad thai. Big handful biltong.
Crossfit
D = snapper (done in same way as yesterday). Salad of spinach, cherry tomato, capsicum, cheddar. Dressing of olive oil and balsamic.

Every now and then I have a hungry, hungry hippo day. Today was one of those those. Have no idea what sets them off but when they hit it ain't pretty. The closest image I could give is one of those insinkerator things that you feed your food scraps into. Identical in both speed of food disposal and noise created.

Sunday 8 November 2009

B = no breakfast, intermittent fasting. Was busy at work so didn't notice too much. However, on way home began planning UBER-LUNCH.
L = 2 fried eggs, streaky bacon, cherry tomatoes, avocado. Coffee with coconut cream.
S = 50g roasted cashews, trim flat white. Not my best work quite frankly, was walking around a mall.
S = 50g roasted cashews (finished off the packet), herbal tea.
D = snapper dipped in egg, rolled in almond meal seasoned with salt and pepper, panfried in butter. 1 tbsp sundried tomato aioli. Salad of spinach, avocado, cherry tomato, olives, cheddar. Dressing of olive oil and balsamic.

No cake now for 2 weeks. Brave new dietary frontiers are being forged.
