Friday 3/07/09

10am at Tony Budding's Gym
Snatch Tech practise - Still feels strange but nailed a couple which felt a lot easier. Worked up to 43kg then went back to about 35kg to work on speed.

1 x run very steep, long hill!!!
1 x run very steep, short hill!!!

In taper mode now so just doing stuff to keep the feel of movements and keep the lungs working.

1 x badminton game? Smile

01/07/09

2pm with Pat, Jonji and Jobst
500m row
30 burpees
10 OH anyhow (115lbs - 52.5kg)
7.26min
Not a good workout for me. We were all really feeling it yesterday after the last few days. Did the row in about 1.55min and only stopped once during the burpees but the jerks felt really heavy! I think it took like 4min to do 10 Jerks!! Yikes. Oh and it turns out no body does burpees like we do over here. I only realised that after the workout after performing 30 super strict burpees Smile At least my pushups have gotten better though!!

Tuesday 30/06/09

4pm at Santa cruz with Pat and Jonji

'Michael'
800m run
50 hip extensions
50 GHR
3 rounds
Because I have never really done either of these movements in a wod before (we do modified michael at CFNZ) we thought it best to cut them in half. I did all the running and then 25 of each on every round. Glut Ham Raises are really hard, especially when you start getting fatigued! Was happy with the runs, it was hot!
16.06min

Monday 29/06/09

5pm at Santa Cruz
7 rounds of Bear Complex (39kg)
Power clean, front squat,push press,back squat,push jerk
25 pullups
AMRAP 20min
5 rounds + 2 rounds bear
I did the complex as power clean, thruster then thruster from behind the neck - flowed better that way. Pullups were varied through all sets, did two rounds chest to bar then mixed grip etc on others (on Hollis's instructions). This was horrible! Very hot in the gym and was finding pullups really hard. Jetlag is gone though which is sweet.

Saturday 27/06/09

10am at Santa Cruz
Heavy Deads - Got some great help from Hollis and Danielle (coaches) and worked up to 100kg. We all agreed I should stop there and take it easy for the next few days. Changing technique up a bit definitely made it feel easier though Smile

21 KB Swings (24kg)
15 Box Jumps (70cm)
9 HSPU
3 rounds
14.2?min - I did not feel good in the warm up. Jetlag hit me bad today. I should have rested but didn't want to pike so managed to get through the wod at a very slow pace. Every rep was hard. Spent rest of day chilling out and eating. Need some energy back Smile

(8 round tabata's each of following, take lowest score)
row - 5cal
pullup (i did dead hang) - 4
pushup (i did 5 then held plank for remaining 20sec)
situp (abmat strict) - 10
squat (I did back extension controlled) - 5
Good first workout after a big flight and not much sleep. Great to get amongst other affiliates too!

7pm at CrossFit Santa Cruz with Pat Barber

OH Squats felt like a break between the L-Pullups, they were gnarly! Great working out with a fellow Games competitor.

I'm going to take a punt and guess that a lot of those women are from the ex-powerlifting crowd. That's about my age and 20 odd years ago powerlifting in NZ was at a level of popularity that people today wouldn't believe, largely fuelled by Cathy Millen and her coach Graham Fong. There were a lot of female lifters back and quite a few of the guys were involved in the strong man contests too, so I suspect that now that there are women's strongman classes (there weren't back then) women of about my vintage are revisiting their youth.

Edit: Embarassed Oh and obviously congratulations. I look forward to hearing your war stories.

Saturday 20/06/09

Strongwoman Competition

1. 50m car pull (legacy) - 2.19min (I had the slowest time, apart from another lady who didn't complete it! Technique was super important and I just didn't get it. There was a mini hill towards the end where the car actually started pulling me backwards!!!)

2. 25m Tyre Flip (120kg) - 47sec ( Third fastest time by 1sec!! This was the easiest by far)

3. 40m Farmers walk (100kg) - 27sec (didn't do as badly as I thought I would, third again)

4. 50m Log Carry (50kg) - 37sec (very awkward, felt like about 80kg not 50kg! Got the grip eventually but wasted quite a bit of time, fourth I think)

5. Atlas stones (48kg, 52kg, 60kg, 72kg, 80kg) - Was happy to complete this! The rocks were very hard to get up above the waist.

Not a bad afternoon of training, was the smallest by about 20kg and surprisingly the average age looked to be about 40/50 something? (don't want to insult anyone Smile)Awesome to see some other ladies out there kicking ass! I came fourth overall (7 competitors). Friday 19/06/09

11am
Snatch 32kg,34kg,37kg,40kg (3 reps each) - getting more confident with these, still got training wheels on though!

OH Squat - 5 @ 60% (35kg), 5 @ 70% (40kg), 5 @ 75% (45kg)

5pm with Loz
4 x 150m Hill Sprints (I had 10kg weight vest on)
They took us around 30sec each. Loz just ahead on each one, couldn't quite keep up Smile
